Athletic Training

Overview

Certified Athletic Trainers help prevent and treat injuries for people that are physically active. Their clients include everyone from professional athletes to industrial workers. Recognized by the American Medical Association as allied health professionals, athletic trainers specialize in the prevention, assessment, immediate care, and rehabilitation of injuries that result from physical activity.

In order to become certified, athletic trainers must complete a bachelor's degree in athletic training, accrue a minimum of two years of clinical experience, pass the NATABOC certification exam, and adhere to the NATA Code of ethics. Athletic trainers are required to be well versed in the following competencies:

Athletic Training at Northwest College
The Athletic Training Education Program at Northwest College is designed to help students begin their journey toward certification. In cooperation with Yellowstone Sports Medicine and the University of Wyoming Athletic Training Education Program, NWC provides the first two years of an entry level athletic training degree.

At NWC, students are able to get hands on experience in a supervised and professional atmosphere, starting from the first day of classes. Due to its small size, this program is great for highly motivated students as well as those students needing extra attention.

Upon completion of an Associate of Science degree, students can transfer directly to the University of Wyoming Athletic Training Education Program. Students wishing to complete their degree at other universities are encouraged to find the entry requirements of that program in order to tailor their classes to fit their needs.
