What is Powell Valley Community Education's MISSION?

Powell Valley Community Education's goal is to enhance the quality of life in our community by providing quality lifelong learning opportunities to friends and neighbors of the Park County School District #1 area. This school district includes the geographic area of the cities of Powell, Clark and Ralston, although everyone is welcome to participate in programs.

Community education's noncredit classes and workshops cover a wide range of topics. Registration fees cover the cost of instructors, supplies, advertising, brochure printing and development costs, and some administrative expenses, if necessary. These programs are supported through the cooperative efforts of Northwest College and Park County School District #1 in Powell through a Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES). Ideas for new workshops, classes and/or instructors are always welcome.

What is the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES)?

The purpose of a BOCES agreement is to provide a method whereby school districts and community college districts may work together and cooperate to provide educational services. Park County School District #1/NWC BOCES is supported by a 1/2-mil tax assessed on property valuation in the Powell/Clark area school district. The assessment is used to pay salary and wages for a coordinator, and necessary administrative and program implementation assistance.
All classes, programs, and activities conducted by PVCE are expected to be self-supporting and are managed by the acting coordinator. PVCE provides many programs in cooperation with the school district, local businesses and agencies, Northwest College, the Powell Hospital and many community members and organizations, and numerous citizens of all ages, backgrounds and interests.
