Portfolios
In order to be considered for a scholarship in Fine Arts, Graphics, or Photography, applicants must present a portfolio of original works to the faculty along with a scholarship application. We prefer to interview you and review your portfolio in person on Scholarship Day, but if you cannot attend Scholarship Day, you may submit an electronic portfolio along with your online application. (For dates, check out the Scholarships Timeline)
General portfolio requirements for Photography scholarships
If you are interested in applying for one of the Photography scholarships, please submit a portfolio of five to ten images. We tend to lean toward images which demonstrate career potential in areas such as photojournalism, commercial portraiture, and advertising. For full details on portfolio requirements for Photography scholarships, visit the Photography website.
General portfolio requirements for Fine Arts and Graphic Design scholarships
Your portfolio is an important part of your application. The portfolio should showcase your best work, presented as professionally as possible. It will be evaluated on artistic and conceptual content, design and composition, technical skill, and creative potential. Submit 10-20 examples of your best and most recent work. Please note that we recommend several of these works to be observational drawings as part of your portfolio — even if you plan on majoring in Graphic Design. Your portfolio in general may include classroom work, studio assignments, personal projects and/or sketchbook work.
Visual art or design pieces may be executed in any medium, in black and white or color, and may include, but are not limited to, drawing, painting, design, printmaking, collage, photography, ceramics, sculpture, or digital art.
