Special Opportunities

The Education Program at Northwest College offers many interesting and convenient learning opportunities. Here are some programs you might want to take advantage of when you attend NWC and major in Education.
Do you want help transferring to a four-year college to complete teacher certification?
NWC has excellent transfer agreements with regional colleges. We assist our students with the admissions process when they transfer. Your academic advisor will help you with long-range educational planning.
If you are a Montana resident, NWC can offer you an excellent transfer agreement with Montana State University at Billings. All freshmen and sophomore courses needed for certification at MSU can be completed and transferred to MSU-B without any loss of credit. Call 406-657-2240 or visit MSU-Billings for more information.

Do you want to stay in the Big Horn Basin and complete a bachelor's degree?
Several major universities offer all the classes needed to become a certified elementary teacher right in Powell. You will take classes taught in person and get to know your classmates as future colleagues. Your practicum and student teaching classes will also be scheduled close to your home to allow you to continue meeting family and community responsibilites while completing college. Do you want to get a job in education while you are still a college student?
NWC has a Child Care Center on campus to care for pre-schoolers and kindergarteners while their parents are learning or working at the college. The center hires several college students each semester as aides who plan activities, supervise the children and teach important life skills.
Do you want to make yourself more employable by getting certified to coach?
To get an athletic coaching permit you have to complete courses in "Prevention and care of athletic injuries," "First Aid/CPR," "Coaching and tactics," and the "Scientific Foundations of Coaching," all of which are offered at NWC. Does NWC offer any classes for in-service teachers who want to improve their skills?
Recertification classes are offered throughout the year, but are especially designed to meet the needs of busy teachers in the summer. Contact us to learn more.
