NWC Equine Judging

The 2009 Equine Judging Team started off their year with a bang!  Team members included freshman Brett Tillery, Raia Olsen, and Jessie Sundgren and sophomores Ann McLean, Nikki Hoverson, Kelse Mauss, Apryl Lamberger, and Kelly Siedel.  The team competed in two Spring contests: the National Reining Horse Breeders Classic (NRBC) held in Katy, Texas and the Paint-O-Rama held in Fort Worth, Texas.

 

NRBC Results:  Team 1 made up of team members: Nikki Hoverson, Kelse Mauss, Apryl Lamberger, and Ann McLean took 3rd high team overall, coming in just behind Texas A & M University and West Texas A & M University.  Nikki Hoverson earned top honors taking the 2nd high overall individual award home.  Team 2 made up of team members: Kelly Siedel, Brett Tillery, Raia Olsen, and Jessie Sundgren took 7th high team overall.

 

Coach Pamila Thiel states "It was a very good way to start out our week and I'm very proud of our teams success against the top Four Year Universities!"

 

Paint-O-Rama Results:  Team 1 made up of team members: Nikki Hoverson, Kelse Mauss, Apryl Lamberger, and Kelly Seidel took 2nd high team overall.  They were also the 1st high team in performance overall and 5th high team in reasons.  Team individuals also took home many honors including:

  • Nikki Hoverson: 7th high individual halter, 9th high individual performance, 10 high individual reasons, 4th high individual overall
  • Ann McLean: 9th high individual halter
  • Apryl Lamberger: 2nd high individual performance, 5th high individual overall
  • Kelse Mauss: 4th high individual performance, 9th high individual overall

Team 2 made up of team members: Raia Olsen, Ann McLean, Jessie Sundgren, and Brett Tillery took 8th high team overall.

 

All American Award:  We also had four sophomores Kelse Mauss, Ann McLean, Apryl Lamberger, and Nikki Hoverson qualify for the All American Award.  To become an All American, judging students have to maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher, compete in 3 national contests, and place in the Top 10 individually.

 

The Team would like to send out a special Thank You to Charlotte Patrick for all her help throughout the semester with their reasons!

 

NRHA Futurity:  The team is currently preparing for competition at the National Reining Horse Association Futurity to be held in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma December 1st - 5th.
