Financial Aid

Apply for Financial Aid

Completing the financial aid process from beginning to end takes time. The process normally takes 12 to 16 weeks from completing the FAFSA to receiving an Award Letter.

Step 1

File your FAFSA electronically online at http://www.fafsa.gov/ . List Northwest College, code #003931 so the results will be sent to Northwest College.

  • The student (and at least one parent if applicable) must have a PIN number to electronically file the FAFSA; obtain your pin number at http://www.pin.ed.gov/.
  • Read all instructions carefully. Follow instructions, references to specific tax forms and lines.
  • Answer every question.
  • Be sure your name on the FAFSA matches your name on your social security card (do not use nicknames).
  • Report taxes paid, not taxes withheld.
  • If you are divorced or separated, report only YOUR income.
  • If you are married, you must report spousal income.
  •
    Step 2

Wait for results from the processor.

    Step 3

You will receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) from the federal processor.

    • Read it and review the information carefully.
    • Corrections to your FAFSA can be easily made online at http://www.fafsa.gov/.
    • If no changes are required, keep the SAR for your records.
    • If you are interested in a Stafford student loan, complete the MPN online or request a PLUS (parent loan) application from the FAO.

    Step 4

The FAO will review your application and request any additional documentation that is needed for verification. Respond immediately to any request.

    Step 5

The FAO will process your aid and/or loans and will mail an official Award Letter for you to sign and return. (Retain one copy for your records).

    NOTE

Each student's actual processing time will depend upon when you apply and how quickly you respond to requests from our office.  If you have questions ask the Northwest College Financial Aid & Scholarship's Office. Do not rely on the answers of family and friends.

    Important

Read our Standards of Sastisfactory Academic Progress for more details on the NWC criteria to receive funds.

    The Award Letter

If you are eligible for financial aid, we will mail you an award letter stating terms and conditions of aid programs for which you are eligible.

If your status changes in any way, you should notify our office immediately so we can determine if your eligibility is affected.

Carefully read the award letter and all materials included. If you accept the award(s) offered, sign one copy as directed, return it to the FAO, and retain one copy for your records.
