Grants

Grants are based on financial need and do not have to be repaid. Grants are usually funded through the federal and/or state government. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order for NWC to award grants, loans and work-study funds. The FAFSA can be completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Priority deadlines are:
      Fall semester: March 1
      Spring semester: October 1

NOTE: Students who have already received a bachelor's degree are ineligible for the grants listed below. Grants are available on Walk-in Registration Day if your file has been completed and awarded.

Types of Grants

  • Federal Pell Grant - This federally funded grant is based on financial need, enrollment level, and cost of attendance at Northwest College. This money is applied to any outstanding accounts of the student first and then any remaining balance is refunded to the student.

  • Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) - This federally funded grant program is for Pell eligible students who have completed a rigorous high school program of study, graduated after January 1, 2005 and meet additional criteria that is predetermined by the federal government.

  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) - Funds for this need-based grant are provided by the federal government and Northwest College. This grant is for exceptionally needy students - those who qualify for the Federal Pell Grant and meet additional requirements. Annual awards vary, depending on Northwest College's federal allocation as well as the student's eligibility and enrollment level. Because these funds are extremely limited, it is recommended that a student meet NWC's March 1 priority deadline for filing the FAFSA. No special application is required.

  • Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (LEAPP) Program - The federal government and the State of Wyoming fund this grant for needy students, who qualify for Federal Pell Grant, meet additional requirements, and who are residents of Wyoming. Program provisions are the same as the FSEOG.
