Types of Aid
Federal Stafford Loan
There are two types of federally funded Stafford loans:
- Subsidized (Need-based)
- Unsubsidized (Non-need-based)
Subsidized
The federal government pays the interest while you're enrolled at least half-time and during periods of deferment.
- Eligible freshmen may qualify to borrow up to $3500.
- Students who have successfully completed 30 credits (sophomores) in their academic program may qualify to borrow up to $4500.
The interest rate is fixed at 6.8%. Repayment begins 6 months after the student ceases to be at least a half-time student.
Unsubsidized
The same loan as the Subsidized Stafford Loan, except that interest accrues while the student is in school.
