Verification
Verification is a quality control process required by the federal government. Being selected for verification does not mean the applicant did anything wrong. NWC is required to conduct activities that will verify the accuracy of information provided by students when they apply for federal student aid.
Students whose applications are selected for verification will be
required to submit certain documentation to the Northwest College FAO.
Required documentation may include, but is not limited to, any of the
following:
- A completed Institutional Verification Form:
- A signed copy of the student's federal income tax return, W-2s and all schedules.
- A signed copy of the parent's federal income tax return (if the student is dependent), W-2s and all schedules.
- A signed copy of the spouse's federal income tax return (if the student is married), W-2s and all schedules.
- Other information we may request to verify & complete your file
- A copy of the student's military discharge (Form DD-214).
- A copy of the student's Marriage Certificate.
- Proof that the student is not in default on a federal student loan.
- A copy of the student's Social Security card.
- A copy of Birth Certificate(s) and proof of dependency for children the student supports.
All required documentation must be received and reviewed by the
FAO, and any discrepancies must be resolved, before a student's
eligibility can be determined.
Upon completion of the verification process, the FAO will notify the
student of the results. If you are eligible for financial aid you will
receive an Award Letter.
NOTE
If you do not qualify for a Pell Grant and have not submitted a Master Promissory Note, we will deactivate your file. If at a later date in the academic year you find you need a loan, we can reactivate your file.
Northwest College does not award federal aid or certify federal student
loans until the verification process is complete and all corrections
are made and reprocessed.
