Transferring

Many students arrive at Northwest secure in the knowledge of where they want to transfer. Others arrive with little, if any, idea of where they want to transfer. For those who are uncertain about where to transfer, picking a college or university can be difficult. There are over 3,000 colleges, universities and trade schools in the United States alone.

There are many resources available to help students figure out transfer options. Statistics suggest that a majority of students are now using the Internet to evaluate colleges. Northwest has an excellent website with transfer information entitled Transfers from Northwest.  The link is available on the Quick Links page.

Remember that Northwest has a number of articulation, or transfer, agreements with other colleges and universities. These agreements help to smooth the transfer of courses. Students might wish to start by reviewing these schools to see if any of them are of interest.

Once a student has narrowed choices down to a few schools, more information can be found both on the college's web site and from the Catalogs of the individual schools. College catalogs are the most important source of information about a particular school. They provide the nuts and bolts of institutional requirements. One tremendous source for college catalogs is College Source Online, which currently has over 16,000 college catalogs available online in PDF format.   College Source Online requires a subscription, but it may be accessed from any computer on the college network. Additionally, students off campus may access it by logging on to the Hinckley Library website.
