International Students

Important Alerts

Upon Arrival

Bring your I-20, Passport, Visa, and I-94 card to the Student Success Center so copies can be made.   Also be prepared to purchase mandatory health insurance; this is part of the estimated costs at Northwest College.

Vacation Periods

Make sure that your I-20 is signed by the International Advisor if you plan to leave the U.S.A.  Dormitories are closed during winter and spring break.   Students may stay on campus for an additional fee during these periods, or take advantage of the time off to travel.

Tax Time

All students must fill out tax forms even if you did not work. If you did work, you will get a document called a W-2 form in the mail. It is a record of the money you made. You will need this to fill out your tax form. Watch for email notices for tax workshops in March.

OPT

Optional Practical Training is available to students who graduate from Northwest College. OPT allows you to get an employment card so that you can work for one year after you graduate. If you are interested, please make an appointment with the international advisor three months before graduation.
