NWC International Friendship Family Program

Dear International Student,

Welcome to the NWC International Friendship Family Program! We are happy that you are considering Northwest College and we hope to meet you here in Powell, Wyoming.

As a committe, our goal is to provide friendship families for all international students at NWC in an effort to build cultural awareness through a teaching process for both the families and the students as they learn about the cultures, foods, religions and geography relative to one another. While the students do not live with these families, the families do provide a home like atmosphere and interact with the student at both the convenience of the student and the family. As an example, the students may be invited:

• for holidays,
• to a local restaurant,
• to share a home cooked meal,
• to go shopping,
• to visit Yellowstone National Park and other areas of interest in the region, and
• to go to concerts, movies, art shows, and athletic events

When the residence halls are closed during the holidays, many students travel around the United States or return home, but in some cases when the student remains in Powell, the families have had their friendship student stay with them. Often, students and families develop close relationships and the students know that if they need to talk with someone about a problem, have any questions, and/or simply want to get out of the residence halls for a while and do something different, there is always someone available, happy to listen, and to spend time with. It is a win-win situation for all concerned.

Of all the organizations in which I have an involvement, the Friendship Committee truly tugs at my heart strings. I can't imagine a more pleasurable endeavor than being associated with the outstanding young people from so many different countries. We truly look forward to meeting you and hope that you will have a wonderful time at NWC and in Powell, WY.
