General or multidisciplinary databases
- ARTstor — This image database focuses on art, area studies, social history, sociology, and environment history. For scholars who are using images as evidence (rather than as illustration); images that span the richness of the physical and cultural world past and present.
- Academic Search Premier — (via EbscoHost) Full text for nearly 4,700 publications, including more than 3,600 peer-reviewed journals. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further.
- America's Historical Newspapers (1690-2000) (Newsbank) — Find news articles covering topics in government, politics, social issues, culture, literature discoveries, inventions and more from hundreds of primary sources . Newsbank also includes current events and special reports.
- American History in Video — Study and analyze American historical events, and their presentation over time, through commercial and governmental newsreels, archival footage, public affairs footage, and important documentaires.
- Britannica Online — An excellent online encyclopedia, dictionary, and world atlas. Don't know much about your topic? Start here.
- CQ Global Researcher — Coverage of newsworthy global affairs from a multitude of international viewpoints.
- CQ Researcher — Up-to-date reports on current or controversial topics. Each report includes citations to other resources.
- Credo Reference — General reference source, aggregating content of major subjects from the "best publishers of reference."
- Films on Demand — Collection by Films Media Group (FMG) of online educational videos. These films are viewed through streaming video and can be linked by faculty into online classes. Flash is the recommended viewing software. If streaming is not smooth, try a lower playback file size (300, or 400).
- Gale Reference (GVRL) — All of your favorite reference books online. Search within one reference title, across several reference titles, or even across several other Gale databases. Note: GVRL may perform better with Firefox browser rather than Internet Explorer.
- Granger's Index to Poetry — Full-text poetry and citations to poems in multiple languages covering the works of several major poets as well as current poetry from some of the best poetry periodicals.
- JSTOR — Provides full-text to scholarly journals in administration, African-American studies, anthropology, Asian studies, business, ecology, economics, education, finance, history, law, literature, mathematics, philosophy, political science, population, psychology, public policy, sociology, statistics, US and International Music research and theory, and more... Current issues are not included.
- Lexis-Nexis — Lexis Nexis has full-text and abstracts of news, business, and legal information. Great source for regional, national, and international newspaper coverage.
- Mango Languages — "The easiest way to learn a foreign language!" Mango is an online learning system that can help you learn languages like Spanish, French, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Mandarin Chinese, Greek, Italian, Russian & more. You may create your own login to save and track your progress.
- Mobile Search to Academic Search Premier & Other Ebsco Databases — Ebsco-provided databases formatted for your mobile phone, iTouch, iPhone, BlackBerry, Dell Axiom, Palm 750 and other devices. Your database choices include our nursing, business, and history databases, Agricola and GeoRef. Javascript must be enabled on your device (BlackBerry users see Enable Javascript on BlackBerry.)
- OmniFile Full Text Select (via Ebscohost) — Full text access to magazine and journal articles. Covers about 1,700 periodicals, in all disciplines. From mid-1990s to the present.
- Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center (Gale) — Designed to aid students in the study of today's hottest social issues, this database can also be cross-searched with other Gale databases.
- Proquest Central — An interdisciplinary database by Proquest; includes JBI (nursing evidence-based journals) and agricultural journals.
- Reader's Guide Retrospective: 1890-1982 — Wilson's Reader's Guide Index provides article citations written between 1890-1982. This resource cross-links to the library's Article Linker which searches for full-text articles. Now provided by EbscoHost.
- Reference Universe-- Search Hinckley Library Reference (Paratext) — A search engine to search the complete back-of-the-book indexes and articles to over 16,000 reference works and then matches them to Hinckley Library's reference collection.
- SIRS Researcher — Full text articles from newspapers, magazines, and government publications. Especially good for current events and leading topics in the news.
- Serials Locator — Have a journal citation but need to find which database carries the full text? Search for the journal's title in this electronic journal locator tool created by SerialsSolutions.
- USA.gov — The official portal for all USA federal, state. and local information, from online documents and resources to social security benefits, government jobs and tips on stretching your dollars.
- WorldCat — Catalog of books, audiovisual materials, music scores and recordings, government publications, etc. from around the world. No journal articles.
- Wyoming Union List of Periodicals (WULP) — What specific magazine/journal titles do Wyoming libraries own (including Hinckley Library)? Search by title or library.
