Peer Tutoring Services—provides FREE help for students in most academic areas. NWC students can now book tutoring appointments using the TutorTrac software from any internet connected PC.  Click the My NWC student log in on NWC ‘s homepage and you will have access to the TutorTrac icon.  You may also contact Carol Zawacki, Tutoring Specialist at 754-6137 or drop by the second floor of the library to request a tutor or make an appointment with a tutor. In addition to individual tutoring, group study and drop in tutoring are available at various locations. Current schedules for these services can be viewed at: http://www.northwestcollege.edu/tutoring

The Student Success Center (SSC) is located in lower level of Colter Hall, down the ramp on the east side of the front steps.  Stop by or call 754-6135 for all your scheduling needs.  The SSC also offers the following:

  • Student Health—your first stop for health-related questions and concerns without the price of an office visit.  Contact JoHanna Hergenrider, RN, and/or Roxie Herman, physician’s assistant (754-6442).
  • Disability Support Services— responds to the needs of students with documented disabilities as outlined both in the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (Amended) of 2008. If you have a documented disability, please contact Deb Mills, Disability Support Services Coordinator, at 754-6135 for free, confidential individualized services.
  • Project Succeed—helps eligible students position themselves for success and pursue excellence through graduation or transfer to a four-year college. The staff offers learning, study, time management, and budgeting strategies as well as career and transfer assistance.  Eligible students are those who have low income, those whose parents do not have a four-year (bachelor’s) degree, and/or those who have documented disabilities.  Project Succeed is funded by the U.S. Department of Education as a Student Support Services TRiO program and is staffed by Cindy Childs, Lisa Harsh and Jean Nash (754-6135).
  • Counseling—Licensed Clinical Counselors Cynthia Garhart (754-6135) and Roena Halbur (754-6135) work with students providing counseling for mental health issues including depression, eating concerns, relationships, anxiety,  and grief, to name a few.  Adjustment issues in college such as homesickness, stress management, and study skills are other common areas for which students may wish to seek assistance from the counselors.  There are two interns this semester to assist with counseling needs so students are encouraged to stop by for just one visit or for weekly visits
  • Multicultural—connects NWC with the world.  Mary Baumann (754-6138) coordinates services for international and minority students and brings diverse program offerings to our campus.
  • Testing—The Testing Center is located in the SSC.  The Testing Center is the place for campus make-up exams, testing accommodations for students with disabilities and COMPASS tests/re-takes.  The COMPASS test is used to place you in the appropriate Math and English courses. It is used when you have not taken the ACT or SAT tests or you want to try to improve your current math or English placement. The first time you take the test there is a $10 fee and there is a $3 fee for re-takes.  Contact Jesse Taylor (754-6126) to schedule an appointment for testing.
