Leonardo Medeiros and Cheyenne Saltsman were named the athletes of the year for Northwest College on Monday night at the school’s annual athletic awards ceremony. The dinner and program was held at The Commons in downtown Powell.

Postseason changes coming
The National Junior College Athletic Association approved changes to the postseason tournament structure in both basketball and soccer. The changes were announced following the organization’s spring board of directors meeting in Colorado Springs.

Trappers Hansen Solarin earn regional honors
Northwest College freshmen Chris Hansen and Jeffrey Solarin were honored by the Region IX men’s basketball coaches with inclusion on the region’s postseason rosters. Hansen also had his name forwarded for All-America consideration.

Ward resigns at Northwest
Northwest College athletic director and head men’s basketball coach Andy Ward has resigned from Northwest College. He is expected to join his former college coach Bill Evans as a member of the Idaho State University coaching staff.

Short stay for Trapper basketball
The Region IX men’s and women’s basketball tournaments came to an unceremonious end for the Northwest College Trappers as both teams were defeated in their opening contests. The men fell by a 67-63 count to North Platte. The Trapper women lost 87-45 to Northeastern.

Trappers dispatch Dawson
Ty Ackelson and Diego Pasos combined for 21 points on Sophomore Night as Northwest College wrapped up its regular season with a 79-67 win over Dawson Community College. The Trappers had led by as many as 21 points late.

Northwest Trapper men score big wins
Chris Hansen’s driving bucket with one second left lifted the Northwest College Trappers to a big 74-73 road win at Casper College. It also provided the Trappers with the first half of a big two-victory week on the hardwood that keeps the team in the running for a top finish in the Region IX North. Northwest also posted an 82- 73 win over Miles in Saturday basketball action at Cabre Gymnasium.

Trapper men hammer Little Big Horn College
The Northwest College men’s basketball team blasted Little Big Horn College 96-52 in its only action last week. The win sets the stage for a pair of key Region IX North games against Casper and Miles this week.

Trapper me fall to Central
Konner Frey’s three-quarter court shot at the halftime buzzer appeared to give Northwest College some momentum, but the second half belonged to Central Wyoming in a 76-71 win over the Trappers.
