Heavyweight Landon Harris and 174-pounder Nick Petersen took different routes on Saturday, but both wound up at the same destination. The Northwest College Trappers vanquished the demons of last season by defeating nemesis Casper College on back-to-back nights to capture the Region IX North volleyball title in Riverton and secure a place in the national championships. The gallery will host an opening reception from 4-8 p.m. where the artists will be on hand to talk about their topic and their work. A silent auction of images, plus partial proceeds from the event will benefit Friends Of A Legacy (FOAL).

For nine months, the vision has haunted Northwest College men's basketball coach Andy Ward - a basketball hanging on the rim, frozen in time for a moment before succumbing to the pull of gravity and dropping through the twine. It is a vision of how last season ended.

The Northwest College Trappers split a pair of volleyball matches last week to move to 18-8 overall this season. NWC dropped Dawson in three games, 25-12, 25-12, 25-23, but couldn't pull out a win at No. 12 Casper, falling 20-25, 25-20, 25-16, 20-25, 15-13.

The Northwest College volleyball team may have recently taken down a trio of top-15 opponents in Miami, but the team is taking it on the chin this week from a different opponent, Illness.

The Northwest College Trappers won three out of four games - all against teams ranked in the top 13 of the latest national rankings - to return from Florida as the champion of the Miami Dade volleyball tournament.

Northwest College saw its victory total for the season lowered by one game after the school was required to forfeit a Sept. 14 victory over Dawson Community College after self-reporting the use of an ineligible player in that contest.

A 2-1 performance on the volleyball court wasn't enough to keep the Northwest College Trappers among the nation's top teams in the latest NJCAA volleyball poll. A 3-0 sweep at the hands of Western Wyoming dropped the squad back among the "others" in this week's poll.

POWELL, Wyo. - The Northwest College Writers Series kicks off its 2009-10 year Thursday, Oct. 8, with Danielle Ofri, a physician and teacher at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, the oldest public hospital in the United States. Ofri presents the second annual Winifred S. Wasden Memorial Reading at 7:30 p.m. in the Rendezvous Lounge of the DeWitt Student Center. The Northwest College Trappers captured five wins in six games over the weekend at the Wyo-braska tournament in Scottsbluff, Neb. Included in that mark was a five-game win over 12th-ranked Northeastern Junior College.

Northwest College head coach Flavia Siqueira had plenty of questions but not many answers following the 20th-ranked Trappers' 27-25, 20-25, 25- 17, 25-22 loss at the hands of Casper last Thursday. The contest was a rematch of last year's Region IX North championship game.

As if the team needed any more inspiration for tonight's (Thursday's) game against fellow Region IX foe Casper, the Northwest College Trapper volleyball program will carry the distinction of being a ranked team for the first time this season into that contest as well.

The Northwest College Trapper volleyball team is planning revenge on the Casper College Thunderbirds on Thursday, and they're inviting fans to a tailgate party before the game to share in the spirit-building fun.

The Northwest College Trapper volleyball team rode the waves of an enthusiastic home crowd to thoroughly dominate every facet of the game in a 25-9, 25-15, 25-11 victory over Sheridan College on Tuesday night. The win improves NWC's record to 6-1 this season and starts the school out at 1-0 in conference play.

Patience, they say, is a virtue. When it comes to Northwest College volleyball this fall, Trapper head coach Flavia Siqueira is also describing it as a needed commodity.

The Northwest College Trappers added four players to their women's basketball roster. First-year head coach Janis Beal announced the signings last week.

The 2004 Northwest College national championship wrestling season was a high water mark of Powell's initial century and also of this writer's first 54 years.

The Northwest College women's basketball program announced a quartet of signings for the upcoming season. The newest Trappers were the first signed in the tenure of new head women's coach Janis Beal.

Andy Ward, head coach of the men's basketball team at Northwest College, has plenty of fond memories of his playing days at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington. Many of those memories, he said, were a direct result of the support offered by Gary and Flo Brunsvold and their children, who served as Ward's host family during his junior college basketball career.
