Resumes and Cover Letters

Plan to spend at least an hour or two writing your resume.  When it comes to writing resumes, time to reflect, plan and proof are vital to your success.

You are strongly encouraged to attend the Lunch and Learn sessions that the Career and Transfer Coordinator offers each semester. During these sessions, you will receive copies of sample resumes and cover letters to assist you in understanding what is required in these documents and what catches a prospective employer’s attention. You will also have the opportunity to have your resume and cover letter critiqued by the coordinator.  In addition, you can work with other students in this interactive learning environment to hear what has worked for them in writing their resume and cover letter.

Use the following resources to help you create personalized resumes and cover letters. Remember that these documents should highlight your unique abilities to complete specific requirements.

The language in resumes and cover letters should be professional, active, accurate, and precise. Make sure that your cover letter and resume are free of grammatical errors and avoid generic forms.

Remember that the purpose of these documents is to advertise you! Be sure to take advantage of campus resources when preparing your cover letters and resumes.
