Driver Education

Alive at 25: Driver Awareness for Youth

Alive at 25 directly addresses the most common causes of crashes involving young drivers: speeding, impaired driving, lack of awareness of the consequences of risk-taking behavior, inexperience with the complexities of driving, and distractions and pressure from peers in the vehicle. This is a survival course designed to teach young drivers to take responsibility for their behavior. It is the only course of its kind taught exclusively by law enforcement officers.

All instruction occurs in a classroom setting and students do not need to own a driver's permit or license to attend. The highly interactive 4.5-hour class will be offered free of charge to participants between the ages of 15 and 25. Pre-registration is required as enrollment will be limited. Contact Powell Valley Community Education at 307-754-6469 to reserve a seat. Pizza will be provided free of charge for participants.

Alive at 25 has its own official Web site at www.aliveat25.us but please register through PVCE to make sure you get the class for free.

Hinckley Library Offers Resources for Learning Drivers

The Hinckley Library at Northwest College has many educational resources available on reserve for parents, teens and new drivers to utilize while teaching and/or learning the skills of driving a motor vehicle. The public is welcome to come and check out videos, DVD's, texts, games, interactive computer programs and more. These educational resources were donated by Powell Valley Community Education for use by the public. "I know of no other place in Wyoming where the public can get their hands on these educational materials," says Powell Driver Education Program Coordinator Ingrid Eickstedt. "We want parents of teen drivers and all beginning drivers to know there are educational resources available for them."
