Wilderness Orientation Week Northwest College, Powell, WY Wilderness Orientation Week

Trip Highlights

This year we will be offering one amazing trip. The first day you can look forward to one of the things we love the most here at Northwest College and that’s the high and low ropes courses. What the heck is that you may ask? Well it’s a series of “games” that get you out of your comfort zone, communicating with those in your group, and making new friends. The highlight is our zip line which will send you flying through the forest. After that excitement wraps up we will spend the rest of the evening camping and cooking at the A.L. Mickelson Field Station, which is part of Northwest College.

On the second day of your orientation week we will take you to one of the best climbing spots in the area known as the Island which is just outside of Cody, WY. After "sending" some routes we will cool off with a whitewater rafting trip down the Shoshone River. That evening we will return to the field station for more campfire cooking and sleeping under the stars.

Day three begins the backpacking portion of our trip. We will head up into the Beartooth Mountains and hike into one of our favorite camping spots at Beauty Lake. We will explore this gorgeous area, sing campfire songs, and learn a little bit about camping and ourselves.

On our final day we will hike out and head back to the NWC campus where you can get moved into your dorm room. That night we will have a barbecue where you will have a chance to meet other students and faculty members who have similar interests.
