Originally from Brazil, Flavia Siqueira coached her first Trapper team last year. She brought with her to Powell two of her former College of the Southwest team members, as well as a few club players from South America. It was a north-meets-south encounter when these women and a handful of Rocky Mountain players showed up for the first practice. By their first match, a team had been born from the progeny of two hemispheres.
Heading into the 2009 National Tournament as this year's Region IX North Champions, Flavia's two-year cumulative Trapper record is 63-16. These numbers merit more than a second look when considering that half of those eight losses were posted in one weekend during her first-year team's season-opening tournament in Idaho. This year's Trappers rumbled like thunder through the regional tournament, surrendering not even one set on their way to the championship.
Before coming to Northwest, Flavia coached at the College of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico. She took her CSW Mustangs to a third-place finish in the Red River Conference and top 10 in their region.
Flavia was a standout player in Brazil before being recruited in 2000 by Western Nebraska Community College. During her two years there, the WNCC Cougars placed fourth and then third in the nation. Flavia was named All-Region and received an Academic All-American Award. In 2002, she transferred to the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D., where she helped the team to a national top-10 ranking for the first time in the school's history. Flavia was named All-Conference, All-Region and All-American.
She holds a bachelor's degree in physical education with a minor in coaching, and a master's in college teaching, both earned at UM.
