Trapper wrestling gains five
Northwest College head wrestling coach Jim Zeigler announced five new commitments for the Trappers’ wrestling program last week. Included in the list is a grappler ranked 19th nationally this past season by Intermat magazine’s prep rankings.

NWC's Ford joins UW wrestling
LARAMIE, Wyo. - There will be strength in numbers for the Wyoming Cowboy Wrestling program’s incoming class in 2010-11, as head coach Mark Branch recently announced that two student-athletes will transfer to the University of Wyoming this fall and boost the total of new recruits to 12.

Bodra, Oliverson receive Trapper awards
Trapper basketball players Ricardo Bodra and Kati Oliverson were honored by Northwest College last Wednesday evening by being named the male and female Trapper Award winners for the 2009- 2010 academic year. The awards were the highlight of the evening’s athletic award ceremony.

Trappers fourth at national wrestling
Northwest College wrestling coach Jim Zeigler brought home seven All- Americans from the NJCAA national wrestling championships in Des Moines, Iowa, including its latest national champion in sophomore heavyweight Landon Harris, as the team rolled to a fourth-place finish. The seven All-Americans are the second-most ever recorded by the Trappers.

Eight is enough
The Northwest College Trappers will be hoping eight is enough after qualifying that many wrestlers for the NJCAA national championship tournament later this month. Included in that number are newly-crowned regional champions Saul Guerrero (133 pounds), McCade Ford (141) and Landon Harris (285).

No. 4 NWC departs for regional action
Junior college wrestling enters the post-season this weekend as the Northwest College Trappers, ranked No. 4 in the final poll of the regular season, head to Colby, Kan., for West Central regional tournament action. Eight of the 10 wrestlers from Powell carry national rankings into the event.

Trapper wrestlers stay fourth
The expected rankings shakeup in the wake of the Apodaca Dual Showdown hit the NJCAA wrestling poll when it was released last Friday. While the Trappers remain fourth overall, the impact was more significant in the individual weight class rankings, which in some cases saw considerable shakeup.

Carranza wins Apodaca Award
Redshirt sophomore Luis Carranza was named the 2010 recipient of the Apodaca Award for Leadership and Excellence presented by Northwest College. Carranza wrestled the two previous seasons for the Trappers before returning this season as a redshirt member of the team.
